Select Choir is the Saint Francis of Assisi School choir for students in grades 3 through 8. The emphasis in this choir is on pitch, rhythm, voice placement, choral vowels and interpreting text to effectively communicate through song. Singers must make a reliable commitment to weekly rehearsals. The Select Choir rehearses Thursday from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
The Middle School Ensemble is a special choral ensemble for middle school students. This ensemble will explore choral literature focusing on vocal technique and the foundations of part singing. The Ensemble rehearses on a rotating schedule during the school day in the church. Each student who is a part of the Middle School Ensemble is also part of the Select Choir.
The cantors for the school masses are from the Select Choir. Students have opportunities to perform in pairs as cantors. Please know that it takes time, work, voice maturity, and demonstrated leadership in the choir to perform this role. Typically, cantors begin in 6th grade.
The Select Choir has been personally invited by our Pastor to sing at the 10:45 a.m. Family Mass each week during the school year. While this is not a requirement, it is another awesome opportunity to praise God, lift the hearts of our parish, and showcase their amazing talent. There are no additional rehearsals for this mass. Cantors from the school who participate in the choir at the 10:45 am mass on Sunday also have the opportunity to cantor at these masses. Schedules are arranged in advance to allow for family planning.
Christmas Choir is another exciting opportunity to sing. This choir performs beautiful Christmas music at the Festival of Praise and at Christmas Eve masses. Rehearsals are on Sunday’s from 3:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. beginning in November.
